In 1935, Gordon Yao’s father, Master Tailor T.D. Yao, opened his first bespoke tailor store on Fengyang Road, Shanghai, China. Master Yao witnessed and was influenced by the early generation of Shanghai famed tailors in the 1940’s. With his dedication and excellent craftsmanship, Yao quickly gained a reputation for making fine quality wool suits in the region.  In the 1950’s, Yao moved to Hong Kong to pursue his business. Our Hong Kong bespoke tailor shop, Asia Arts Fashion House, was opened in 1952 at Miramar Hotel Arcade on Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui.

Gordon Yao joined Asia Arts Fashion House in 1961.  Prior to working for his father, Gordon was sent to an outside tailor workshop to learn the fundamental craftsmanship and end to end tailoring process as an apprentice tailor for 3 years. Soon after Gordon returned, Master Yao trained and worked with Gordon together to run the business. In 1969, we had expanded our shop and changed the name to Gordon Yao & Co.
